Games Six and Seven Give Fox Respectable World Series Ratings

A thrilling sixth game followed by a winner-take-all game seven drove Fox to what ended up being respectable ratings for the World Series.

The thrilling game six 10-9 win by the Cardinals over the Rangers gave Fox a 12.7 rating. The game seven finale earned Fox a 14.5 rating with an audience of 25 million viewers.  The game seven rating was the highest for a World Series game since game four of the 2004 World Series.

Over the seven game fall classic Fox had an average rating of 10.0 with an audience of 16.6 million viewers.  That number is up 19% over 2010.

Sports Media Weekly Podcast No. 76- Tim Britton, Providence Journal

I am again riding solo on this week’s edition of the show as Ken Fang of Fang’s Bites had a prior commitment and could not join me.

In the news segment I briefly touch upon the flat ratings for Fox and the 2011 World Series, despite winning the battle over Sunday Night Football on NBC this Sunday.

I also look at how more regular season NBA games may be lost to the lockout and how NBC is getting set to move a portion of its sports operation to Stamford, Connecticut.

My guest this week is Tim Britton, Red Sox beat writer for the Providence Journal.  Tim takes us through his first season covering the Red Sox, his experiences on the road, and the drama that has surrounded the team since its epic 2011 collapse.

World Series Ratings Remain Flat for Fox

Game 5 of the World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers registered a rating of 8.8 for Fox, the same rating as game 5 of 2010 between the Rangers and San Francisco Giants.

Through five games Fox is averaging a 8.3 rating, down from 8.4 last year.

St. Louis led all markets with a 46.9 rating followed by Dallas which recorded a 40.0.

World Series Game One Gives Fox Ratings Win, But Numbers Below 2010

Last night’s game one of the World Series between the Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals registered a 8.7 rating with 14.2 million viewers, winning the prime time night for Fox.

Even though the network won the night in terms of households and the 18-49 demographic, the ratings numbers were 2% lower than game one of the 2010 Series between the Rangers and San Francisco Giants.

St. Louis led all the local markets with a 47.3 rating.  Dallas was second with a rating of 34.2.
