TNT Sees Viewership Bump for First Round of PGA Championship

Turner Sports announced today that its first round coverage of the PGA Championship had a 1.1 overnight rating, up 83% compared the opening round of the Championship in 2012.

Turner also saw a jump in the audience for those who viewed the first round online.  Live streaming across platforms (broadband and mobile) was up 106% over last year’s comparable opening round coverage. Additionally, live streaming hours across platforms were up 93% compared with 2012.

Fox Signs Gabe Kapler for Fox Sports Live

Fox Sports today added another former athlete to serve on its panel of analysts on Fox Sports Live.  The network announced that former MLB outfielder Gabe Kapler will join the show as a MLB analyst.

“I’m ecstatic to join the already brilliant FOX Sports 1 team,” Kapler said.  “The collection of talent assembled is second-to-none.  I’m honored and beyond excited to be in a position to add my MLB spice to this recipe.”

“With years of baseball experience in several capacities, Gabe brings a well-rounded perspective of the sport to FOX SPORTS LIVE,” said FOX Sports EVP/Coordinating Studio Producer Scott Ackerson.  “He knows the inner-workings of several clubs and is well-connected, enabling him to cut to the heart of the news and highlights from a variety of viewpoints.”

Fox Sports 1 Announces High School Football Line-up

Fox Sports today unveiled a slate of seven high school football games which will air on Fox Sports 1 beginning on August 23rd.

Daron Sutton and Ben Leber will call the action.

“High school football is a way of life in so many corners of the country,” said Mike Connelly, FOX Sports Networks SVP, Executive Producer.  “The sport is truly tribal to their communities.  That’s where these young men gut it out every day for the sheer love of the game and the dream of playing ball after high school.  FOX Sports 1 shows just how dedicated these kids are, how agonizing their defeats and sweet their victories, in what also could be a glimpse at next year’s college superstars.”

TNT’s 2013-2014 NBA Television Schedule

Turner Sports announced today TNT’s 52 game regular season schedule of the NBA.  Action begins on opening night, October 29th.

The slate includes 10 appearances by the Los Angeles Clippers, LA Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder, as well as nine appearances each by the NBA Champion Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Chicago Bulls and Houston Rockets.

TNT gets Huge Ratings for Pacers/Heat Game 7–  Turner Sports reports that the ratings for last night’s game 7 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals on TNT registered a 7.1 rating with an audience of 11.5 million viewers, making it the third highest-rated and third most watched program in the history of the network.   The game was also the highest-rated and most-viewed NBA telecast in the network’s 29-year history with the league and is the highest-rated and most-viewed NBA game across all of television (broadcast and cable) this year.

Berson Named President of CBS Sports–  CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus announced today that David Berson President, CBS Sports.  Berson joined CBS Sports in 2011 as Executive Vice President, CBS Sports and President, CBS Sports Network. In his new role, Berson will continue to report to McManus and will be involved in all aspects of CBS Sports’ day-to-day management and will also continue to lead CBS Sports Network.

Longhorn Network to Televise First Two UT Football Games–  ESPN has announced that the first two games of the 2013 University of Texas football season will be televised on the the Longhorn Network.  Both  matchups will be at home against New Mexico State on Saturday, Aug. 31 and Ole Miss on Saturday, Sept. 14. Kickoff for both games is set for 7 p.m. CT.

ESPN Obtains Rights to Wooden Legacy College Hoops Event-  ESPN annoucned that it has entered into a new four -year deal to televise the Wood Legacy College Basketball Tournament.  The tournament will combine the former John R. Wooden Classic with the Anaheim Classic.  This year’s event will take place November 28th through December 1st.

NASCAR Nationwide Race on ESPN– The NASCAR Nationwide Series will be on ESPN this Saturday night from the Iowa Speedway.  Coverage begins at 7:30p.m. ET with NASCAR Countdown  with the green flag at 8:15 p.m. Anchor Allen Bestwick will be joined by analysts Dale Jarrett and Andy Petree.

TNT’s Coverage of NASCAR Sprint Cup

Beginning this week TNT takes over coverage of races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Six races are on the schedule as TNT begins its 31st year televising the races.

Adam Alexander will call the races and serve as pre and post race host.  He’ll be joined by analysts Kyle Petty, Wally Dallenbach andLarry McReynolds.  Reporters Sheheen, Marty Snider, Matt Yocum and Chris Neville will patrol pit road prior to and during each race.

NBA Eastern Conference Finals Game 4 Number 1 Program on TV–  Turner Sports reports that last night’s game four of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals between the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers had a rating of 5.1 and an average audience of 8.1 million viewers, making it the number one prime time show for the night on television (cable and broadcast).  The rating was 26% higher and the audience 24% higher than the network’s coverage of game four of the Western Conference Finals last year.

Costas Looks Back at the Freeh Report on Costas Tonight–  The next edition of Costas Tonight on the NBC Sports Network will feature Bob Costas looking back at the impact of the Freeh report on Penn State athletics and the family of Joe Paterno.  Costas Tonight will air tonight at 11:00p.m. ET following the network’s coverage of game seven of the NHL Western Conference semi-finals between the Red Wings and Blackhawks.

CBS Produces Golf Special Featuring Golfers and their Dads–  CBS Sports is producing a one-hour special looking at the special bond golf has played between fathers and sons.  PGA TOUR 2013: Golf’s Dads talks with PGA stars and their connection to the game with their fathers.  The program debuts this Sunday at 1:30p.m. ET.

Sunday Night Football Top Rated Program for the 2012-2013 TV Season–  The 2012-2013 television season is over and Sunday Night Football has been crowned the top-rated prime-time program for the year.  NBC has earned that honor for the second straight year.  Over the course of the 19 telecasts Sunday Night Football earned an average audience of 21.5 million viewers.

TNT Nets a 5.3 Rating for NBA Eastern Conference Finals Opener–  Turner Sports reports that last night’s opening game of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals register an average rating of 5.3 with 8.2 million viewers.  The rating was up 10% over the network’s coverage of the first game of the Western Conference  Finals last year.

Finebaum Joins ESPN and SEC Network–  ESPN has announced that it has hired long-time sports voice Paul Finebaum to host a radio show which will eventually be simulcast on the SEC Network.  The radio show will debut this August with the simulcast on the SEC Network to begin in August of 2014.  Finebaum will also appear on a variety of other shows and outlets, including SportsCenterCollege Football LiveCollege GameDay and in ESPN The Magazine.

Coca-Cola 600 This Weekend on Fox– Fox Sports continues its coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Sunday evening with the Coca-Cola 600 from the Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Coverage begins at 5:30p.m. ET with pre-race action hosted by Chris Myers with Darrell and Michael Waltrip.  When the race begins Mike Joy calls the action alongside analysts Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds while Steve Byrnes, Krista Voda and Matt Yocum patrol the pits for reports on teams and pit stops. FOX Sports’ Jeff Hammond serves as the network’s roving analyst.

Each game of the series will be preceded by NBA Tip-Off hosted by Ernie Johnson with analysts Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith.
