Sirius XM Radio Has Coverage of 29 Bowl Games

Sirius XM Radio will be the satellite radio home to 29 college football bowl games, including the BCS bowl games.

Sirius XM is working in conjunction with ESPN Radio to broadcast the games on SiriusXM channel 84.  Games can also be found on channel 91 and channel 94.

13 Game NFL Schedule Leads to Record Ratings for NFL Network–  The NFL Network today announced that the first year of its 13 game Thursday Night Football schedule proved fruitful as the network saw a 8% increase in ratings over 2011 for the 2012 season.  Thursday Night Football averaged a 4.6 rating and 7.3 million viewers for the season.

49’ers/Pats on Sunday Night Football Attracts 23.2 MillionViewers-  NBC Sports has announced that this week’s Sunday Night Football (SNF) telecast between the 49ers and Patriots had an average audience of 23.2 million viewers, a 40% increase over the network’s week 15 match-up last year.  The game was the second most-watched SNF contest of the year, trailing only the season opener between the Steelers and Broncos.  So far this season SNF is averaging 21 million viewers, tied with 2011 and a rating of 12.6, just below last year’s 12.7 number.

NFL Network Replay for this Week–  Here is the slate of three games that will be replayed this week on the NFL Network (NFLN): Tonight at 8:00p.m. ET NFLN will re-air the Packers at Bears.  At 9:30p.m. ET Sunday night’s 49ers/Patriots match-up will get another airing.  Tomorrow at 9:00p.m. ET NFLN will replay the Steelers at Cowboys.

NBA TV Celebrates a Successful 2012–  NBA TV announced today that 2012 was a very good year, with its primetime viewership up 55% over 2011.  The network is also seeing viewership increases for individual projects, including its Tuesday Fan Night game presentations, which are up 6% over last year.

Thursday NBA Doubleheader on TNT–  TNT is prepping for this week’s Thursday night NBA double header.  At 7:00p.m. ET Kevin Harlan, Reggie Miller, Chris Webber and Marty Snider will call the action as the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Minnesota Timberwolves.  At 9:30p.m. ET the Miami Heat take on the Dallas Mavericks with Marv Albert, Steve Kerr, Mike Fratello, and Craig Sager on the mic.

ESPN/NFLPA Reach Deal on Collegiate Bowl–  ESPN has reached a deal with the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) to telecast the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which is dedicated to top draft-eligible seniors.  The 2013 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will air on ESPN2 January 19th at 6:00p.m. ET. ESPNU will carry practice sessions on January 17th beginning at 1:30p.m. ET.

Fox Sports to Telecast FA Cup  Fox Sports will be providing U.S. coverage of England’s FA Cup soccer competition beginning next month.  On January 5th at 12:00p.m. ET the network will televise third round action as West Ham United takes on Manchester United. The FA Cup Final will air live on Fox, Saturday, May 11,  at 12:00p.m. ET from London’s legendary Wembley Stadium.

Sirius XM Radio To Create Special Channel for 2012 Sports Year in Review– Sirius XM Radio is planning to launch a special pop-up channel which will look back at the year in sports for 2012.  “The Year in SiriusXM Sports” channel will be available to subscribers on channel 142 on satellite radios and on channel 962 on and on the SiriusXM Internet Radio App.  Along with various Sirius XM hosts, the channel will look back at the highlights of the 2012 sports year.  The channel will launch December 26th and run until January 3rd.

HBO Will Air Boxing’s Best Beginning Christmas Day–  As it wraps-up 2012 HBO Sports will be replaying some of its biggest boxing matches of the year.  The network’s Boxing’s Best series begins Christmas night.  Here is the schedule:

Sports Media Digest- November 14, 2012

ESPN to Make New Orleans French Quarter its Super Bowl Home–  ESPN announced today that it will set-up its Super Bowl XLVII operation in the French Quarter in New Orleans.  ESPN Plans 120 hours of television coverage, as well as ESPN Radio programming from the site during the week of January 28th through February 3rd.  Program schedules will be released at a later date.

Decisive MLS Eastern Conference Championship Match on NBC Sports Network–  The NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) will have live coverage this Sunday of the decisive second leg in the MLS Eastern Conference Championship between D.C. United and the Houston Dynamo.  Coverage begins at 4:00p.m. ET with Arlo White, Kyle Martino and Russ Thaler.

Decisive MLS Western Conference Championship Match on ESPN2–  ESPN will have live coverage this Sudnay of the second leg of the MLS Western Conference Championship between the Los Angeles Galaxy and Seattle Sounders.  Kick-off is 9:00p.m. ET with Adrian Healey, Taylor Twellman and sideline reporter Mónica González.

Sirius XM has Formula One Racing this Weekend–  Sirius XM Radio will have coverage this Sunday of the 2012 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix from Austin, TX.  Coverage begins at at 2:00 pm ET on Sirius channel 92 and XM channel 208.  The broadcast will come from BBC Radio 5 Live with commentators James Allen, former driver Jaime Alguersuari and Jennie Gow.

NBA Double Header Gives TNT Ratings Boost-  TNT is reporting that last night’s NBA double header, led by the Lakers at the Heat, gave the network an average overnight rating of 2.2, 57% above the comparabe match-up last year at this time.  The Lakers/Heat came in with a 3.0 rating while the nightcap between the Mavericks and the Jazz regsitered a 1.4 mark.

Fans Select Next NBA TV Fan Night Telecast- NBA TV has annlounced that fan voting this week has resulted in the selection of the Cleveland Caveliers at the Miami Heat as the network’s Fan Nightgame this Tuesday.  Tip-off is at 7:30p.m. Here is the list of games fans will be voting on to air on January 31st…Celtics at Cavs, Nets at Pacers, Pistons at Knicks, Nuggets at Grizzlies or Kings at Warriors.

NBC Sports Plugs Its NHL Schedule-  The NBC Sports Group will have four NHL games on its networks beginning Sunday.  The broadcast network will have coverage of the Capitals and Peguins beginning at 12:30p.m. ET.  NBC Sports Network (NBCSP) will carry the Blues at Red Wings Monday night at 7:3op.m. ET, followed by the Wild and Avalanche Tuesday ta 9:00p.m. ET and the Red Wings at the Canadiens Wednesday at 7:30p.m.

Sirius XM to Present the Senior Bowl-  Sirius XM Radio will pr providing live coverage of this year’s Senior Bowl.  The game will air Janaury 28th at 4:00p.m. ET on SiriusXM NFL Radio, channel 88 on Sirius and XM Premier.

Here are some other sports media items making news today:

NBC Sports Has Five Straight Days of Hockey- NBC Sports is beginning its ramp up for the second half of he NHL season by providing five straight days of action. Action starts this Saturday at 12:30p.m. ET as NBC will telecast Chicago at Detroit.  Sunday night at 7:00p.m. ET NBC Sports Network will the New York Rangers at Montreal Canadiens.  Game three on Monday at 7:30p.m. ET p.m. NBC Sports Network will have Dallas at St. Louis, followed on Tuesday at the same time Nashville at the New York Rangers.  The finale on Wednesday at 7:30p.m. ET will feature Buffalo at Chicago also NBC Sports Network.

MLB Network to Debut Game Show- The MLB Network has announced that it will launch a game show entitled, Baseball IQBaseball IQ will feature thirty-two participants from the 30 MLB clubs.  They will be matched up in a bracket-style tournament across 31 episodes.  The participants will be playing for money to be dontaed to charity.  The program will be hosted by Matt Vasgersian and premiere January 24th at 9:00 p.m. ET.

New Daily College Basketball Program to Air on SiriusXM Radio- SiriusXM will debut Inside College Basketball beginning Thursday, January 12 at 12:00p.m. ET on channel 91.  The program will be hosted throughout the season by a roster of college basketball experts that includes former University of Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl, former Villanova University and University of Massachusetts coach Steve Lappas, former University of Vermont coach Tom Brennan, former Ohio State star Jimmy Jackson, college basketball insiders Jeff Goodman and Jon Rothstein and broadcaster Jason Horowitz.  The program will air every weekday through the college basketball postseason.

Multiple Networks Have PGA Championship Covered

Golf’s final major, the PGA Championship, takes place this weekend from the Atlanta Athletic Club.  And multiple networks will provide extensive coverage of the tournament.

TNT will have live coverage of the first two rounds of the tournament, Thursday and Friday from 1:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. ET.  TNT will have early coverage Saturday and Sunday from 11:00am to 2:00pm ET.

CBS will have exclusive coverage of the finale of the last two rounds from 2:00pm to 7:00pm ET.

The Golf Channel will be on site for for over 50 hours of special programming throughout the week.

Finally, Sirius XM Radio will have radio coverage from the Atlanta Athletic Club over XM channel 93 or channel 208 on Sirius Premier.  On course coverage begins at 11:00am ET on Thursday and Friday and 1:00p.m. ET Saturday and Sunday.

SiriusXM to Provide Coverage of US Open

SiriusXM satellite radio will be teaming up with ESPN Radio to provide live coverage of this weekend’s U.S. OPen Golf Championship from Congressional Country Club.

Live play-by-play will air Thursday and Friday (10:00am-4:00 pm ET), Saturday and Sunday (2:00-8:00 pm/conclusion ET) on ESPN Xtra, SiriusXM channel 85.

SiriusXM will also have live golf talk leading up to and through the tournament on the PGA TOUR Network channel, channel 93 on XM and channel 208 on Sirius Premier.
