Let’s head to Nashville and take a look at the local media that covers the Tennessee Titans

Newspaper- The Tennessean is the major metropolitan newspaper covering the Titans. Like other papers its size, The Tennessean has a comprehensive sports section, including special overage of the Titans. Beat writers Jim Wyatt and Gary Estwick keep readers up to date on the paper’s Titans blog.

Sports Radio- There is a website devoted entirely to the Titans Radio Network. Mike Keith provides play-by-play while Frank Wycheck handles analysis. You can get more Titans talk on WGFX and WNFN.

Television- The television outlets covering the team include WKRN, WSMV, WTVF, and WZTV.

Blogs- Check out Music City Miracles, Titans Nation, Go Titans, and Total Titans for some independent Tennessee coverage.

NFL Local Sports Media- Pittsburgh Steelers

Let’s take a look at the local media contingent that spend their time covering the Pittsburgh Steelers

Newspaper- The City of Pittsburgh are served by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.

The Post Gazette has a very detailed online sports section with a page dedicated to the Steelers. Online Sports Editor Dan Gigler is the author of the Blog N’ Gold Steelers blog.

The Tribune Review also presents a respectable sports section. They also have a dedicated section for the club. Beat writer Scott Brown also maintains the paper’s Steelers’ blog.

Sports Radio- WDVE and WBGG serve as the flagship for the Steelers’ Radio Network. Bill Hillgrove serves on play-by-play while Tunch Ilkin provides analysis. WBGG and WEAE serve as the sports radio talkers in town.

Television- Follow the Steelers on television at KDKA, WPGH, WPXI, and WTAE.

Blogs- Among the blogs covering the Steelers include Behind the Steel Curtain, Steelers Locker, Steelers Gab, and the Steelers Tradition.

NFL Local Sports Media- Chicago Bears

We now take a look at the local media covering the team in the country’s #2 NFL market…Chicago and the Bears

Newspaper- Chicago is a two newspaper town, with both the Sun Times and the Tribune serving the city.  Both papers’ online sports pages provide comprehensive coverage of the Bears.  Both also have space dedicated to the teamSun Times beat writer Brad Briggs helps maintain the paper’s Inside the Bears blog.  At the Trib, a series of reporters contribute to the Huddle Up blog.  The tribune also runs the Chicago site which also has plenty of Bears news.

Sports Radio-  WBBM radio is the flagship that steers the Bears Radio Network. Jeff Joniak provides the play-by-play with Tom Thayer on game analysis.  The Windy City has two sports radio stations that provide plenty of Bears talk.  WSCR and WMVP.

Television- The local television outlets covering the Bears include WBBM, WFLD, WLS, WMAQ, and WGN.

Blogs- Check out these independent Bears blogs; Da Bears BlogChicago Bears Blog, Windy City Gridiron, and Bears Gab.

NFL Local Sports Media- New England Patriots

Being one of the best teams in the NFL brings with it some tough media…and it doesn’t get much tougher than the group that covers the New England Patriots

Newspaper- We know that many newspaper outlets cover the Pats…what we miss you can add in the comments. But the two biggest names are the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald. Both papers offer comprehensive coverage of the Patriots in their sports section and in dedicated pages on their web sites. Each paper also has blogs for the Pats; The Globe’s Mike Reiss’ Reiss’ Pieces and the Herald’s John Tomase and Karen Guregian’s Point After.

Sports Radio- WBCN serves as the flagship of the Patriots Radio Network.  Gil Santos returns on play-by-play, joined by analyst Gino Cappelletti.  Sports radio talk is dominated by powerhouse WEEI.  ESPN Radio Boston is also an alternative for Pats’ fans.

Television- Some of the television outlets covering the Pats include, WBZ, WCVB, WHDH and WFXT.

Blogs- There are no shortage of independent blogs covering the Pats.  Among them are Patriots Locker, Patriots Gab, Pats Pulpit, and the Patriot Act.

NFL Local Sports Media- Philadelphia Eagles

Let’s check out the City of Brotherly Love and the local media that covers the Philadelphia Eagles

Newspaper-  Philadelphia is a two newspaper town owned by one company.  Both papers are housed within the same web site.  The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News sports sections seems devoid of any page dedicated to the Eagles.   The Daily News beat writers do maintain a blog.  The Inquirer also has a blog, but it’s not easy to find.  The host site, however, does have a dedicated Eagles page which encompasses both newspapers’ content.

Sports Radio- WYSP serves as the flagship in the Eagles Radio Network.  Merrill Reese serves as the play-by-play voice, joined by Mike Quick with analysis.  Philly fans are fortunate to have two sports radio stations to follow the team; powerhouse WIP and WPEN.

Television- Television outlets in Philadelphia include KYW, WCAU, WPVI, and WTXF.

Blogs- Check out Bleeding Green NationIggles Blog, Eagles Locker, and Bleed Eagles Green for independent writing on the Eagles.

NFL Local Sports Media- Dallas Cowboys

Up next in our look at the local sports media covering the NFL…those who report on the Dallas Cowboys

Newspaper-  The major newspaper serving the metropolitan Dallas area is the Dallas Morning News.  As you can imagine their sports section is dominated with coverage of the Cowboys.  Their beat writers and columnists contribute via content in the paper and via blogs.  It is a pretty comprehensive read.  Dallas linebacker Kevin Burnett also contributes through his Cowboys Insider Blog.

The Fort Worth Star Telegram is also a significant contributor in covering the Cowboys.  Their online sports section also offers up-to-date news on the team.   Beat writer Rick Herrin and others on the S-T staff contribute often to the Cowboys Corner Blog.

Sports Radio- The Cowboys Radio Network features long-time play-by-play man Brad Sham and analyst Babe Laufenberg on the call.

For the fan, Cowboys talk can be found on KTCK (The Ticket) and KESN.

Television-  On the TV side of things, Cowboys coverage can be found on KDFW, KVTV, KXAS, and WFAA.

Blogs- There are no shortage of independent blogs on the Cowboys’ beat. Among them are Blogging the Boys, The Landry Hat, Cowboys Blog.Net, and Cowboys Gab.

NFL Local Sports Media- Indianapolis Colts

Our next entry looking at the local sports media covering NFL teams takes us to Indianapolis and the Colts

Newspaper- The newspaper of record in Indy is the Indianapolis Star. The online version of the paper has a fairly comprehensive sports section, including a dedicated page for the Colts. Beat writers Phillip B. Wilson and Mike Chappell have their own blogs that focuses on the team. Columnist Bob Kravitz also touches upon the Colts from time to time.

Sports Radio- The Colts have an extensive radio network.  Bob Lamey handles play-by-play with mark Herrmann and Ted Marchibroda working as analysts.  WFNI and WNDE give fans two sports radio stations to talk about the team.

Television-  Television stations covering the Colts include WISH, WRTV, WTHR and WXIN.

Blogs-  The Colts have no shortage of independent blogs commenting on the team.  Some of them include Stampede Blue, Colt Freaks, Nap Towns Finest, and Colts Gab.

NFL Local Sports Media- Carolina Panthers

Next up in our look at the local sports media in the NFL…the contingent covering the Carolina Panthers

Newspaper-  The region is covered well by the Charlotte Observer.  Their online sports section mimics the style of other newspaper web sites.  I am amazed that I could not find a Panthers-dedicated page.  Beat writers Charles Chandler, Stan Olsen, and David Scott do maintain a Panthers blog.  Many of the paper’s sports columnists also contribute to the discussion on the Panthers.

Sports Radio-  The team gets great coverage out of its radio network. The team in the booth consists of play-by-play man Mick Mixon, and color analysts Eugene Robinson and Jim Szoke.  WFNZ, The Franchise, is the sports radio station where fans can discuss all things Panthers.

Television-  Television options in covering the team come from WBTV, WCCB, WCNC, and WSOC.

Blogs- Independent Panthers’ blogs include Panthers Gab, Cat Scratch Reader, Cat Crave, and Carolina Panthers Blog.

NFL Local Sports Media- Kansas City Chiefs

Our tour of the local sports media covering their NFL teams takes us to the heartland of the country, specifically Kansas City and the Chiefs…

Newspaper- The first stop for news in Kansas City is at the Kansas City Star. The paper has arguably some of the best sports talent to work in a medium-sized media market. Adam Teicher leads a group of writers who contribute to the team’s page. Looking for some quality columnists, look no further than Jason Whitlock and Joe Posnanski.

Sports Radio- There is an entire site dedicated to the Chiefs Radio Network. Mitch Holthus handles play-by-play with Hall of Famer Len Dawson on game analysis WHB is the mega-sports station in town. KCSP also provides Chiefs fans with a sports radio outlet.

Television- KCTV, KMBC, KSHB, and WDAF are the television outlets in KC.

Blogs- Many choices when it comes to independent Chiefs’ blogs.  Check out Arrowhead Pride, Arrowhead Addict, Chiefs Gab, and Chiefs Locker.

NFL Local Sports Media- Green Bay Packers

No Brett Favre talk here.  Just a look at the local media outlets that spend time covering the Green Bay Packers

Newspaper-  There are many papers that cover the Packers, but the Green Bay Press Gazette is the daily that resides in the city.  Their sports section is pretty comprehensive, including their section dedicated to the Packers.  Four beat writers cover the team; Tom Pelissero, Pete Dougherty, Mike Vandermause, and Rob Demovsky.  The paper even has two blogs devoted to the team.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel is another large daily covering the Pack.  Bob McGinn, Ton Silverstein,  Greg Bedard, Lori Nickel, and Rick Klauer work the Packers section at the paper.  Their Packers Blog is also part of the site.

Sports Radio- The team has quite an extensive radio network. Wayne Larrivee offers up the play-by-play and Larry McCarren provides color commentary.

WDUZ and WNFL are the sports radio stations serving Green Bay.

Television-  WBAY, WFRV, WGBA, and WLUK are the television outlets in Green Bay.
