Welcome to a special edition of Sports Media Weekly.
Earlier this week I had the chance to attend the annual NFL on CBS Media Day in New York City. During the event network officials unveiled its line-up of broadcasters calling games this season and announced plans for a new weekly studio program that will debut next month on the CBS Sports Network.
CBS has announced today that legendary play-by-play announcer Marv Albert will be joining the network as part of it’s NFL coverage.
From CBS PR:
“Marv Albert is recognized throughout sports broadcasting as one of its true legends,” says Sean McManus, Chairman, CBS Sports. “Very few in the broadcasting industry can claim his combined accomplishments and remarkable longevity. We are extremely excited to add Marv to our NFL ON CBS team.”
Albert last called NFL games on network television in 1997 when he was part of NBC’s NFL crew.
Albert will continue to call NBA basketball for TNT as well as CBS Sports’ and Turner Sports’ coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.
