Posnanski Joins NBC Sports Group–  The writing tour of Joe Posnanski has now dropped him with the NBC Sports Group.  The network announced yesterday that the former Sports Illustrated and Sports on Earth columnist will be the national columnist for and will also contribute to,,’s SportTalk blogs, including HardballTalk, as well as to the websites of the NBC Sports Regional Networks.

ESPN Radio Announces New Weekend Line-Up-  ESPN Radio has announced that it has revamped its weekend line-up, adding as hosts New York Daily News columnist Mike Lupica and ESPN New York lead columinst Ian O’Connor.  Each will host shows Sunday mornings.  Other programs were also moved to different time slots.  Here is the new ESPN Radio weekend schedule effective 2/24/13:

Cavs/Bulls Next NBA TV Fan Night Telecast– NBA TV has announced that fans have selected the Cavaliers at the Bulls for the Tuesday’s Fan Night game telecast.  Tip-off is 8:00p.m ET.  Here is the list of games from which fans can select the Fan Night telecast for March 5th: Boston Celtics @ Charlotte Bobcats; Los Angeles Lakers @ Orlando Magic; New Orleans Hornets @ Brooklyn Nets; Atlanta Hawks @ Miami Heat; or Dallas Mavericks @ Milwaukee Bucks.

Sports Media Digest- November 5, 2012

First NFL Flex Scheduling Moves Colts/Pats, Leaves SNF in Place–  The first week of the NFL’s flex scheduling has been announced for week 11.  The only change in the original schedule is a change in time of the Colts/Patriots game on CBS from 1:00p.m. to 4:25p.m. ET.  NBC will retain its originally scheduled Sunday night game between the Ravens and Steelers.

CBS Announces SEC Match-Ups for Next Two Weeks-  CBS Sports has announced its slate of SEC football games for the next two weeks.  CBS will have a double header this Saturday beginning at Noon ET as Arkansas takes on South Carolina.  Tim Brando, Steve Beuerlein and Marty Snider will be on the call.  At 3;30p.m. ET Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson, and Tracy Wolfson will call Texas A&M at Alabama.  Saturday, November 17th CBS will televise LSU at Ole Miss at 3:30p.m. ET with Lundquist, Danielson, and Wolfson on the mic.

NFL Films, Travel Channel Collaborate on Behind-the-Scenes Look at Browns Road Trips–  The Travel Channel and NFL Films are collaborating on a new series looking at the behind-the-scenes preparations of the Cleveland Browns on its road trips during the 2012 season.  The series will look back at the Browns on the road for games against the New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers.  NFL Road Tested: The Cleveland Browns debuts December 4th at 10:00p.m. ET on the Travel Channel.

NBC Sports Network to Simulcast The Dan Patrick Radio Show–  Even though Dan Patrick announced the news last week, NBC Sports officially announced that the Dan Patrick Radio Show will now be simulcast on the NBC Sports Network.  The program began airing today and will do so weekdays from 9:00a.m. to Noon ET.

MLB Network To Provide Exclusive Coverage of BBWAA Awards-  The MLB Network (MLBN) has announced that it will have live exclusive coverage of the unveiling of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) post season awards. The winners of the Most Valuable Player, Cy Young, Manager of the Year and Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year awards exclusively on MLB Network from Monday, November 12 to Thursday, November 15.  Greg Amsinger will host with analysts Larry Bowa, Al Leiter, Dan Plesac, Harold Reynolds, Bill Ripken and Tom Verducci.  MLBN will also have the announcement of the five finalists for each award at the BBWAA Awards Finalists Show this Wednesday, November 7 at 6:00 p.m. ET.

New ESPN Radio Program Debuted Today–  ESPN Radio debuted a new program today, Coach & Company, featuring ESPN studio anchor Jonathan Coachman.  The 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. ET program replaces one held by Doug Gottlieb, who left for CBS Sports Radio earlier this fall.

Stan Van Gundy Joins NBC Sports Radio as Analyst– Dial Global and NBC Sports have announced it has signed former NBA head coach Stan Van Gundy to serve as a NBA analyst for the NBC Sports Radio Network. Van Gundy will call into network shows each week during the NBA season. He will talk exclusively to NBC Sports Radio affiliates and co-host for an hour every Friday during the NBA season.

NFL Network Wins the Night in Cable for Thursday Night Football  The NFL Network (NFLN) reports that an average of seven million people tuned in to last night’s Thursday Night Football telecast between the Seahawks and 49’ers, winning the night for the network on cable television.  Through six games, NFLN has seen a ratings boost of 28% and an audience bump of 15%.

TBS Sees Increased Viewership for ALCS-  Despite a four game sweep, TBS saw an increase in viewership for its coverage of the American League Championship Series.  The four game game viewership average was 5.9 million viewers, a 28% increase of the network’s 2011 coverage of the National League Championship Series.  The average rating for the series was 3.8, up 31% over last year.

College Football Tripleheader on CBS Sports Network-  The CBS Sports Network will telecast three college football games tomorrow.  The action starts at 3:30p.m. ET as Indiana takes on Navy with Grant Boone, Todd Christensen and rSheehan Stanwick Burch at the mic.  Marshall will take on Southern Miss at 7:00 PM, ET with Dave Ryan, Steve Beuerlein and Evan Washburn on the call.  The nightcap at 10:30p.m. ET will feature San Diego State at Nevada with James Bates, Aaron Taylor and Lauren Gardner.

ESPN at the World Series–  ESPN TV and ESPN Radio is preparing for coverage of the World Series.   Karl Ravech and Steve Berthiaume will host thenetwork’s pre-game and post-game coverage with John Kruk,  Barry Larkin, Curt Schilling, Aaron Boone, Rick Sutcliffe, Buster Olney and Tim Kurkjian. Additionally, recently named Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona will serve as a guest analyst in his final assignment with ESPN.  ESPN Radio has the exclusive radio broadcast of the World Series. Dan Shulman and analyst Orel Hershiser will call the action with Jon Sciambi with Chris Singleton and Peter Pascarelli providing pre-game and post-game coverage.

NBA Digital Unveils New NBA TV Studio, Re-Design-  NBA Digital announced yesterday that the NBA TV studio will have a new set for the 2012-2013 season and new look to  The new studio will be the home for shows such as Game TimeFan NightThe Jump, The Beat,Fantasy Insider and more – will feature more than 5,000 square feet of versatile studio space, outfitted with 13 monitors including a 65-inch touch screen.  The new is slated to have expanded video features and enhanced social functionality with more ways for fans to leverage their social connections across the site.

Next Edition of Open Court This Tuesday on NBA TV-  NBA TV will air the third edition of its Open Court series will air this Tuesday at 11:00p.m. ET.  This latest episode will feature discussion on each panelist’s career, when they thought they had ‘arrived’ in the NBA, the best Olympic team of all time, the greatest basketball coaches and more. Ernie Johnson hosts with analysts Charles Barkley, Steve Kerr, Reggie Miller, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith, Steve Smith and Chris Webber.

Real Sports Returns–  Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel returns to HBO Sports this Tuesday at 10:00p.m. ET.  Segments on this edition include;  a look at what the transition from the field to TV has done for Michael Strahan; tragedy surrounding an Iowa girl’s volleyball team; exploring homosexuality in sports; and a look back at the Sabols on NFL Films.

Off Road Racing on CBS Sports Spectacular  The CBS Sports Spectacular tomorrow will feature the Lucas Oil Off Road Pro2 races from Reno, Nev.  Ken Stout, Cameron Steele, Rob Klepper and Erin Bates call the action beginning at 1:30p.m. ET.

ESPN Radio Re-Signs Ryen Russillo, Renames Afternoon Program

ESPN announced today that it has signed a mulit-year extension with ESPN Radio host Ryen Russillo.  The signing includes the renaming of the radio program Russillo hosts with Scott Van Pelt from 1:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. ET weekdays to SVP & Russillo.

Russillo, who has been a co-host with Van Pelt sonce 2009, also hosts the radio network’s College GameDay program each saturday during the college football season.

“Over the last three years The Scott Van Pelt Show has been my number one priority, and I couldn’t be happier, that for the next few years it will remain my priority,” Russillo says. “I believe in the direction of this show and am really looking forward to where we are going.”

Russillo has been with ESPN Radio since 2006.

Rangers/Angels on Sunday Night Baseball  ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball this week will feature a battle in the American League Central as the Los Angeles Angels host the Texas Rangers.  First pitch is 8:00p.m. with Dan Shulam, Terry Francona, and Orel Hershiser on the call on ESPN with Jon Sciambi and Chris Singleton broadcasting on ESPN Radio.

International Soccer Friendlies on Fox Soccer- Fox Soccer will have a pair of international soccer friendly matches this weekend.  Saturday at 4:00p.m. ET the English Premiere League’s Liverpool FC will take on Toronto FC in Toronto.  Fox Soccer will have a double header on Sunday as Roma takes on Zaglebie Lubin  at 3:30p.m. ET from Wrigley Field in Chicago, followed at 6:30p.m. ET from Yankee Stadium when current UEFA Champions League titleholders Chelsea face Paris Saint-Germain.

Peter Alliss on Feherty  Legendary golf analyst Peter Alliss will be the next guest on David Feherty’s program Feherty. Alliss sat down with Feherty to discuss his life in the game, which included 23 tournament victories, eight Ryder Cup appearances and a stellar commentating career, which earned him the nickname as “The Voice of Golf.” Feherty airs Monday at 10:00p.m. ET on the Golf Channel.

Junior Lightweight Action on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights- ESPN’s Friday Night Fights will feature a 10-round  junior lightweight bout between Juan Carlos “Mini” Burgos and Cesar “Saba” Vazquez.  Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas will be ringside for ESPN2 and ESPN3 at 9:00p.m. ET.   Bernardo Osuna will present the latest boxing news and highlights from the studio. Alex Pombo and Delvin Rodriguez will call the fights for ESPN Deportes’Viernes de Combates with Leopoldo Gonzalez and Pablo Viruega in the studio.

ESPN Radio To Once Again Host V Foundation Auction-  ESPN Radio will once again be hosting the 8th Annual  “Don’t Give Up ESPYS V Foundation Auction”.  The auction will take place beginning July 1st an run through July 11th.   The online and on-air public auction will feature hundreds of items and experiences for bid to raise money and awareness for The V Foundation for Cancer Research. A majority of the nearly 250 experiences and items in the auction will be available online via or while a total of 18 fan “experiences” will be auctioned live on air across ESPN Radio’s national shows on Wednesday, July 11, beginning at 6 a.m. ET until 12 a.m. ET. Listeners can call 1-800-4JimmyV or log to both donate and bid on items and experiences in the radio-thon.

NBC to Air America’s Cup Pre-Races from Newport, RI-  NBC will provide coverage this weekend of the America’s Cup World Series event from Newport, RI.  Action begins this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET. The broadcast will feature the match racing final and fleet racing final, and will be the first U.S. network broadcast of America’s Cup racing in 20 years.  Todd Harris will serve as the play-by-play commentator for the telecast, and will be joined in the booth by legendary sailor and author Gary Jobson.

CBS Sports Presents Special on Athleticism on PGA Tour-  CBS Sports will produce a one-hour special entitled PGA Tour 2012:  The Sport of Golf Presented by Allegheny Sports Medicine, which will look at how today’s golfers use strength and conditioning techniques to improve their performance on the course.  The program will air tomorrow at 2:00p.m. prior to the network’s coverage of the PGA AT&T National golf tournament.

TBS to Unveil All-Star Rosters Sunday-  TBS will have exclusive coverage of the naming of the American League and National League All-Star rosters this Sunday.  Matt Winer will be joined by analysts Dennis Eckersley, Cal Ripken and David Wells for the announcement beginning at 1:00p.m. ET.  Following the announcement, TBS will have its Sunday MLB on TBS broadcast of the Chicago White Sox at the New York Yankees.  Brian Anderson and John Smoltz call the action beginning at 2:00p.m. ET.

ESPN Getting Solid Ratings for Euro 2012-  With the Euro 2012 semifinals today and tomorrow, ESPN reports that the quarterfinal round of the tournament saw audience numbers up 31% over the 2008 event.  The four matches had an average of 1.463 million television households and 1.918 million viewers.  Through 28 matches (group stage and quarterfinals) Euro 2012  is averaging 889,000 households and 1,144,000 viewers — up 61 percent and 63 percent, respectively.  Through 24 matches on ESPN Deportes, the network is seeing a 46% increase in ratings and a 117% increase in household impressions over 2008.

Euro 2012 Announcers Set for Final on ESPN Radio-  ESPN Radio has announced that JP Dellacamera and Tommy Smyth will be on the mic for the network’s coverage of the Euro 2012 final this Sunday.  Kevin Winter will serve as pre-match, halftime, and post match host.  Coverage begins on ESPN Radio at 1:00p.m. ET Sunday.

SiriusXM Radio’s Coverage of the NBA Draft-  SiriusXM Radio will produce special programming around the 2012 NBA Draft.  Mad Dog Radio personality Dino Costa and former college basketball coach Steve Lappas will team up to host a special edition of The Dino Costa Show live from the NBA Draft on Thursday, June 28 (7:00 pm ET/4:00 pm PT), on Mad Dog Radio, SiriusXM channel 86.

Fox Sports to Produce College Hoops Match on U.S.S. Midway–  Fox sports has announced today that it will televise a college basketball game between San Diego State and Syracuse aboard the air craft carrier U.S.S. Midway.  The game is set for Friday, Nov. 9th at 4:00 p.m. PST.  Fox has announced that Dick Enberg will call the game.

AT&T National PGA Event on CBS-  The next stop on the PGA Tour, the AT&T National, will air this weekend on CBS.  Coverage on Saturday and Sunday begins at 3:00p.m. ET.  Jim Nantz serves as anchor with Sir Nick Faldo as lead analyst.  Ian Baker-Finch calls the action at the 17thhole and Gary McCord at the 16th hole.  David Feherty and Peter Kostis will be the on-course reporters.

One2One with George Brett on CBS Sports Network Tomorrow Night-  CBS Sports Network’s next production of its One2One interview series will feature MLB Hall of Famer George Brett.  The half hour interview hosted by Ian Eagle will debut tomorrow night at 9:30p.m. ET.

ESPN’s Coverage of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals

ESPN and ESPN Radio will have exclusive coverage of the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals.  The series starts Monday night in Miami.

Kia NBA Countdown will precede every Eastern Conference Finals telecast on ESPN at 7:30 p.m. ET (except Wednesday, May 30, at 7 p.m. ET) with a one-hour show. ESPN NBA Analysts Magic Johnson, Jon Barry, Michael Wilbon and Chris Broussard will preview the games.

ESPN Radio Affiliates to Descend on Bristol Wednesday

ESPN will once again be hosting some of its radio affiliates at the Bristol campus as part of its Audio Avenue II initiative.

16 stations as well as network programs will originate from the quad at ESPN this Wednesday beginning at 6:00a.m. ET.

Along with the hosts and producers broadcasting from “Audio Avenue,” participants will include network and affiliate management, account executives, program directors, clients, ESPN employees and those involved with ESPN Audio’s promotions, marketing and sales.

“Audio Avenue brings the concept of ‘ESPN Everywhere’ to life,” said Mo Davenport, Senior Vice President, ESPN Audio in a press release. “Each of these shows and markets represent what our listeners love, the opportunity to hear from experts locally, nationally and globally.”
