Local NFL Sports Media

NFL Local Sports Media- Denver Broncos

We spend today in the Mile High City to look at the media that covers the Denver Broncos

Newspaper- Denver is fortunate to be a two newspaper town.  The Denver Post has a clean. yet simple looking online sports section.  It includes dedicated coverage of the Broncos. Beat writer Lindsay Jones handles the All Things Broncos blog.  It’s always interesting when you have Woody Paige and Jim Armstrong also commenting on the team from time to time.

Over at the Rocky Mountain News their sports page is also clean and understated.  They too have special content on the Broncos, including Jeff Legwold and Lee Rasizer’s Broncos 24/7 blog.  They also have a section where they link to independent Broncos blogs.  Good move.  And if you want a visual view of the team, check in with Drew Litton‘s cartoons periodically.

Sports Radio- KOA serves as the flag ship in the Broncos Radio Network. Dave Logan and David Diaz-Infante provide game day coverage of the team.  Sports Radio KKFN has Broncos talk all day long.

Television-  KCNC, KDVR, KMGH and KUSA has television coverage of the Broncos.

Blogs-  You’ll find more information on the Broncos at Mile High ReportPredominantly Orange, Total Broncos, and Bronco Madness.

NFL Local Sports Media- Houston Texans

Today we look at the local media that covers the other team in the Lone Star State, the Houston Texans

Newspaper- In Houston the Houston Chronicle is he city’s dominant daily newspaper. The online sports section provides the reader with the standard fare, including a special page dedicated to the Texans.  Beat writer Megan Manfull contributes to the Texans Gameplan blog, but there are other writers who blog from time to time on the team.  The paper also has a fan that blogs on the team. Neat.

Sports Radio-  The Houston Texans Radio Network is anchored by sports radio KILT-AM and KILT-FM.  Marc Vandermeer serves on play-by-play with former Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware providing commentary.  Along with KILT you can talk Texans on KBME and KFNC.

NFL Local Sports Media- Detroit Lions

Off to the Motor City to take a look at the local media contingent that follows the Detroit Lions

Newspaper- Detroit is primarily a two paper town, sharing one owner with two editorial staffs. The Detroit Free Press has a fairly well laid out online sports section which includes content dedicated to the Lions. What appears a little strange is that instead of one blog for the Lions, each reporter has his or her individual blog where they report on the team.

The Detroit News also has a good layout for its sports section. Its’ Lions-specific page also mixes in other news from around the NFL. Beat reporter Mike O’Hara keeps readers up to date on the paper’s Lions Blog.

Sports RadioWYXT serves as the flagship in the Lions Radio Network. Dan Miller handles play-by-play with Jim Brandstatter on analysis. You can also talk Lions on WDFN.

Television- WDIV, WJBK, WXYZ, and WWJ handles the local television coverage of the Lions.

Blogs- Looking for independent Lions blogs? Some of them include Pride of Detroit, Detroit Lions Blog, SideLion Report, and Lions Locker.

We know there are more resources for Lions fans. Add your favorites in the comments section.

NFL Local Sports Media- Cleveland Browns

Our next stop of NFL cities and their local sports media is Cleveland and the Browns

Newspaper- The Plain Dealer is the city’s dominant newspaper.  It’s online sports section is pretty basic.  It does have a page dedicated to the Browns, but it’s not easy to get to.  I do like the video clips.  Beat writers Tony Grossi and Mary Kay Cabot control what’s written in the Brown’s Beat Blog.

Sports RadioWMMS and WTAM are the anchors in the Cleveland Browns Radio Network.  For ongoing Browns talk, head over to ESPN’s WKNR.

Television-  The television outlets covering the Browns include WEWS, WJW, WKYC, and WOIO.

Blogs- Check out Dawgs By NatureAce Davis’ Cleveland Browns Blog, Browns Locker, and Dawg Pound Daily for independent Browns commentary.

If you read someone else’s reporting on the Browns, share it with everyone in the comments section.

NFL Local Sports Media- New York Giants

Time to take a look at how the local media covers the defending Super Bowl champs…the New York Giants

Newspaper- The metropolitan area has four major newspapers that covers the Jets. The New York Timessports section includes a dedicated page for the Giants. The paper also includes the Fifth Down blog, which is devoted to both the Jets and Giants.

The New York Daily News online sports section has a clean look but does not blow me away. They do have a special section on the Giants.  Beat writer Ralph Vacchiano keeps up the paper’s The Blue Screen blog.

Over at the New York Post, they pull off the tabloid feel of the paper in the online sports section. You can access the Giants page by clicking through the NY Teams link in the top menu. Paul Schwartz keeps up the paper’s Big Blue Blog.

At Newsday, its sports section looks like the rest. It too has a page dedicated to the team. Tom Rock handles duties on the paper’s T-Rock’s Take blog.

Sports Radio- Sports power WFAN is the radio home for the Giants Radio Network.  Of course you can also listen to Giants talk over on ESPN 1050.

Television- There are plenty of television outlets that may provide coverage of the team. The ones representing the four major networks are WABC, WNBC, WCBS, and WNYW.

Blogs- Some of the independent Jets blogs include Giants Locker, Giants 101, Giants Football Blog, and Big Blue View.

We know this is only the beginning.  Let us know who you read in the comments section.

NFL Local Sports Media- New York Jets

Time to spend the next two days in the Big Apple. Today we look at the hoard of local media that covers the New York Jets

Newspaper- The metropolitan area has four major newspapers that covers the Jets. The New York Times, for all its grandeur, has a relatively simple-looking online sports section. They do have a dedicated page for the Jets. The paper also includes the Fifth Down blog, which is devoted to both the Jets and Giants. Disappointing.

The New York Daily News online sports section has a clean look but does not blow me away. They do have a special section on the Jets, but it was no easily accessible. You first need to go to the football section then click a link that sorts the stories into the two NFL teams. Beat writer Rich Cimini keeps up the paper’s Jet Stream blog.

Over at the New York Post, they pull off the tabloid feel of the paper in the online sports section. You can access the Jets page by clicking through the NY Teams link in the top menu. Mark Cannizzaro keeps up the paper’s Jets Blog, although it seems not on a consistent basis.

At Newsday, its sports section looks like the rest. It too has a page dedicated to the team. Erik Boland handles duties on the paper’s Inside the Jets blog.
