Sports Media Digest- April 8, 2013

NBC Sports Network has Good First Quarter–  NBC Sports reported today that the viewership for the first quarter on the NBC Sports Network rose 14% over the same period last year.  NHL games were up 58% over 2012 while MLS action was up 8%.  The Dan Patrick Show viewership was also up 58% over 2012.

Floyd and Cora Join MLB Network–  The MLB Network has announced that Cliff Floyd and Joey Cora have joined the network as baseball analysts.  Floyd will debut Monday, April 15 on MLB Tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET and Cora will make his MLB Network debut onMLB Tonight on May 6.

Ben Crenshaw the Focus of this Year’s Jim Nantz Remembers–  This year’s Jim Nantz Remembers Augusta on CBS will look at two-time Masters champion Ben Crenshaw. Jim Nantz Remembers Augusta: Ben Crenshaw at the Masters will air Sunday at 1:00p.m. ET.

CBS Sports Spectacular Also Features Golf this Saturday–  Prior to CBS’ coverage of the Masters Saturday CBS Sports Spectacular will produce two golf-centric programs.  At 1:30p.m. ET CBS Sports Spectacular will televise the Speedgolf World Championships from the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon.  At 2:00p.m. ET Jim Nantz hosts Masters Playoffs, looking back at the 16 playoffs that have been contested through the years at the Masters.

SiriusXM Radio at the Masters–  SiriusXM Radio will provide comprehensive coverage of this week’s Masters tournament.   Live hole-by-hole coverage begins 2:00p.m. ET Thursday on SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio, channel 93 for XM subscribers and channel 208 for Sirius Premier subscribers. Leading into the play-by-play, John Maginnes and Matt Adams will host a special Masters preview show Thursday through Sunday from 12:00 to 2:00 pm ET.  Immediately after the conclusion of each day’s play, Adams will host Masters Review, giving listeners a full recap of the day’s action.

Edwards to Rejoin ESPN Racing Booth for Three Races–  ESPN has announced that NASCAR driver Carl Edwards will return to the booth for the next three races in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.  Edwards will join Allen Bestwick and Andy Partee for races April 12th, April 26th and May 4th.  Edwards made his debut in the ESPN booth last year, calling Nationwide Series races at Darlington Raceway and Kentucky Speedway.

Street Joins Fox Sports as 2014 Olympic Analyst–  Fox Sports announced today that Olympic gold medal downhill skier Picabo Street has joined FOX Sports as an analyst for the 2014 Winter Games from Sochi, Russia.  Street will provide analysis of all women’s and men’s skiing events, as well as contributes daily commentary prior to and throughout The Games across all of FSMG’s platforms including FOX Sports 1, FOXSports.com and FOX Sports Radio.

Fox Sports and Golden Boy Promotions Reach Deal for Boxing Programming– Fox Sports and Golden Boy Promotions have reached a multi-media rights extension to televise exciting live boxing in the United States and internationally.  The new multi-year agreement keeps Golden Boy Promotions’ bouts with Fox Sports for years to come, and helps establish a new Monday night boxing franchise on Fox Sports 1 (FS1), Fox Sports’ new, national multi-sport cable channel launching on Aug. 17.  Golden Boy Promotions was founded by 10-time World Champion Oscar De La Hoya.
