All MLB Media is Local- New York Mets

To the Big Apple to examine some of the local media covering the NEW YORK METS.

Newspaper– The metropolitan area has four major newspapers that covers the Mets. The New York Times‘ (subscription may be required) sports section includes a dedicated page for the Mets. Andrew Keh (Twitter) leads the Mets beat.  Those and others contribute to the paper’s Bats blog, which is devoted to both the Mets and Yankees.  Columnists William C. Rhoden (Twitter), Harvey Araton (Twitter) and George Vecsey  may also chime in on the Mets.
The New York Daily News online sports section is well organized with a special section on the Mets.  Beat writer Bill Price and Andy Martino (Twitter) keep up the paper’s The Bitter Bill and Surfing the Mets sites.  Mike Lupica leads a large contingent of columnists at the paper who may make their feelings known on the Mets.
Over at the New York Post, they pull off the tabloid feel of the paper in the online sports section. Including the Mets page.  Mike Puma (Twitter) is the lead beat writer and keeps up the paper’s Mets Blog.  As with the Daily News, there are plenty of columnists on the sports staff to comment on the Mets. Joel Sherman (Twitter) writes the most on baseball.
At Newsday (subscription required), its sports section also has a page dedicated to the team. Marc Craig (Twitter) takes the lead on the Mets beat. He and other writers contribute to the On-Base Perception blog.  As with its brethren, the paper has its share of columnists to talk Mets.

Sports Radio– Sports power WFAN is the flagship station for Mets baseball.  Howie Rose, Josh Lewin (Twitter) and Jim Duquette (Twitter) have the call of the game. Juan Alicea and MaxPerez-Jimenez have the Spanish broadcasts on WQBU. Of course you can also listen to more Mets talk over on ESPN 98.7 FM.

TelevisionSNY and WPIX are the TV homes for the Mets. Gary Cohen works with Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling.  Ralph Kiner still makes an appearance during the season. Chris Carlin (Twitter) and Bobby Ojeda (Twitter) work in the studio.  There are plenty of television outlets that may provide coverage of the team. The ones representing the four major networks are WABC, WNBC, WCBS, and WNYW.  And of course there is coverage on ESPN New York.

Blogs–  Some independent voices covering the Mets include Amazin Avenue, Faith and Fear in Flushing, Mets Merized Online and Kranepool Society.

These are not all the outlets that cover the Mets.  Add your favorites in the comments.

  1. In addition, sports media columnists Bob Raissman (@NYDNRaiss) from the New York Daily News, Richard Sandomir (@RichSandomir) from the Times and Neil Best (@SportsWatch) from Newsday regularly cover, well, the coverage of the Mets via SNY and WPIX, as well as SNY in general (which is two-thirds owned by the Mets).
