NFL football is on our doorstep, and so is this week’s edition of Sports Media Weekly.
Ken Fang of Fang’s Bites and I begin the show by looking at the new NFL season which, besides changing the start of the Sunday double header game to 4:25p.m. ET, will begin with only minor changes when it comes to the networks telecasting the games.
Ken and I look back at the first week of college football and how it fared in the ratings.
On the heels of ESPN’s announcement that it has extended its deal to carry Major League Baseball through 2021, comes a report from Sports Business Journal that CBS/Turner and Fox are looking to expand its share of the MLB coverage pie.
Ken and I then move on to sports radio, looking at the launch of NBC Sports Radio yesterday and the role Jim Rome will play when CBS Sports Radio debuts in January. We wrap up our news segment by looking at a contentious interview today between the hosts at WEEI Radio in Boston and Red Sox Manager Bobby Valentine.
Our guest this week is Dave Goren, Executive Director of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA). Dave gives us background on his broadcasting career, as well as his connection to Ken. He also fills us in on how the NSSA serves its 900+ members.
