We have reached the 80th edition of the Sports Media Weekly Podcast.
Ken Fang of Fang’s Bites and I open up the show by reporting on the promotions at ESPN of President George Bodenheimer and Executive Vice President of Content John Skipper.
We then look at the exciting finish to the NASCAR Sprint Cup season and the ratings it brought to ESPN. We also look at the poor decision by the WWL for televising the MLS Cup opposite of NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
Ken and I also count the frequent flyer miles Gus Johnson, Charles Davis, and Tim Brewster will earn as it was announced the trio will call the Pac-12 and Big Ten championship games for Fox on successive nights.
We wrap up our news segment looking at an exciting NFL slate on Thanksgiving and giving our sports media turkeys of the year thus far in 2011.
Our guest this week is John Daly, who writes a NASCAR sports media blog called The Daly Planet. John discusses the exciting end of the NASCAR season, how Fox, TNT, and ESPN handle coverage of the sport, and what’s ahead as the television contract for NASCAR expires in 2014.
