Bowl Preview- Allstate Sugar Bowl, Hawaii vs. Georgia

When the BCS bowl line-up was announced arguably the most intriguing match-up takes place at the Allstate Sugar Bowl.  Undefeated Hawaii takes on SEC power Georgia in a game where anything is possible.

Let’s get a look at the game through the local media covering both schools.

University of Hawaii (12-0)

For the second straight year the winner of the WAC enters a BCS bowl game undefeated but not in the Championship Game.  The Warriors will attempt to duplicate the feat of Boise State by ending the season undefeated by winning their BCS Bowl.  Get all you need to know from the Warriors from the team’s web pageKaLeo is the student newspaper on campus.  KTUH is the University’s radio station.

The Honolulu Advertiser is the island’s daily newspaper.  The paper follows the team through its sports section and in special online web pages.  Beat writer Stephen Tsai also writes a Warrior Blog.

KKEA is the sports radio station in Hawaii.  It employs local hosts and appears to have comprehensive coverage of UH.  The station also has all the action on game night.

Television coverage of the Warriors can be found on KGMB, KHNL, KHON, and KITV.

I couldn’t find any independent UH sports blogs.  If you know of one, share the URL in the comments.

University of Georgia (10-2)

The Bulldogs finished just out of the SEC Championship Game but still impressed down the stretch to secure an at-large BCS bid.  Get all the bark on the team from its web page.  The Red and Black student newspaper is currently on semester break, but will have a blog dedicated to the big game.  WUOG and WUGA serve the radio needs of students on campus.

The Athens Banner-Herald is the local daily dedicated to UGA.  They have plenty of coverage on the Bulldogs

Athens is close enough to Atlanta that the Bulldogs may get some play on sports radio stations WCNN and WQXI.

Whether the Bulldogs receive any coverage on local television is also up in the air.  But you can still check out WAGA, WGCL, WSB, and WXIA.

Get independent input on the Bulldogs at Georgia Sports Blog, Dawg Sports, and Georgia Bulldog Blog.

There you have it… No excuses not to enjoy the game!

  1. One clarification (if it is really that): The Red and Black is not a student newspaper associated with the University per se. It is a private business that uses J-School students to produce content.

    Happy New Year!
